Q. Tell Me about Yourself

Chae Myung Baek did not major in arts, but her love for arts made her decide to become its fan. She understands what those who desire for arts on the fringe of it feels like and how sincere and passionate they are when it comes to arts. The time when she is with children as an arts instructor is the moment when she feels she is herself the most.

Q. What Is Your Driving Force or Inspiration of Your Practice?

It’s “swimming.” In just the moment of “splash,” you dive into the water to swim. That instant is not so much different from the moment when I fall into arts. Swimming under the cool, fresh water for a while, I let out a deep breath from my heated body and gain strength to move forward again.

Q. What is a Teaching Artist?
Describe the Teaching Artist You Would Like to Become in Ten Years.

I think a teaching artist is ‘a person who looks into a lack.’ I want to untangle and share lavishly many things I have gained from arts.

Q. What is the Metaphor, the Right Word, for your Practice?
And Why?

Streetlights. They are always in the same place, ready to work, but only when it’s dark do they turn on and show their lights. Likewise, I show my presence at a place or on an occasion where I am needed as an arts instructor.

Q. What Do Colleagues Mean to You?

Our team, <Art Yurt>. People I can be with whenever and wherever!
