Q. Tell Me about Yourself

Si Ra Hur is a haegeum player, a performing artist, and a teaching artist. With traditional Korean music and dance movements, she is engaged in performing arts and arts education. As she seeks to learn from the younger generation, she is in search for arts that can be shared with them. She attempts to discover the value in making and enjoying the arts together.

Q. What Is Your Driving Force or Inspiration of Your Practice?

From the reactions the audience of performing arts and the participants of arts education give, I realize performing arts and arts education are a necessary part for everyone. Raising a child, I observe what kind of art experiences children at that age are having and spend my time thinking about what art experiences they need. These activities are the driving force for my practice.

Q. What is a Teaching Artist?
Describe the Teaching Artist You Would Like to Become in Ten Years.

A teaching artist is a person who shares diverse artistic experiences with people through art activities. I hope I will be in the process of ceaselessly developing my artistic capabilities and strive to incorporate the discoveries I find from this process into arts education.

Q. What is the Metaphor, the Right Word, for your Practice?
And Why?

Everlastingly floating clouds. Clouds have so many different colors, shapes, and rhythms, and they change their forms or directions in an unpredictable way. Even when clouds seem to stand still for a while, they are actually still floating, going somewhere. When I follow where they go and sometimes look at them calmy, I gain strength to continue my work as an artist.

Q. What Do Colleagues Mean to You?

For me, they are people I spend my time with. In that time lie enthusiasm, passion, the moment of waiting, and reconciliation. I will spend another time like that with different colleagues I will encounter in the future.
