Jin Hee Kim is working as an organizer and an administrator for the theater company, “Play BST”. She supports artists in various ways so that they can continue their art activities in stable environment as individuals or as members of an organization. She tries to view her fellow artists from a holistic approach. She considers herself as a “bridge” that connects artists and participants.
Changes in and of people are my driving force. Such changes include changes in artists through their creative work, changes in the audience through their art experiences, and changes of the participants after their engagement in arts education programs. Experiencing these moments of changes is what drives me to take an action.
A teaching artist, I believe, must be more like an artist than a teacher or an instructor. An instructor is a person who delivers academic knowledge, while an artist communicates artistic experiences emerging from reflection and contemplation. I want to be a teaching artist who is capable of conveying such artistic experiences.
“A bridge.”
translate art language of artists into the language of administrators or participants and, by doing so, I connect them.
Colleagues are not merely someone who belongs to a specific group or an organization where I belong. They are everyone who works together for anything related to arts in a “horizontal relationship.” They are those who can freely share and exchange their artistic ideas with one another based on the belief that what we do is safe and won’t hurt us.
