Q. What is “Study on Integrated Arts and Culture Education for Elementary School Students in Special Classes”?

It is a study about arts and culture education for elementary school students in a “special class.” Our team will research arts education cases for children with disabilities inside and outside of Korea. We will also have interviews with experts including teachers in special classes, arts instructors for children with disabilities, and experts from related organizations. It will be our journey to meet students in special classes as beginners in arts education for children with disabilities.

Q. What kind of people, on what common ground, came together as <Art Yurt>?

Project title <You are What You Do>, moved my heart. Since then, I have thought about the ultimate goals of arts education as well as its past and current curriculum, achievements, and attitudes as a teaching artist. Naturally, I thought about “what I want to do to become what I want to be,” and decided to explore with others the issue of arts and culture education specifically for students in special classes.

Today’s arts education curriculum, course, and system are categorized and modified to be suitable to the participant. Still, however, a blind spot exists.

In fact, the blind spot in elementary school education – that a special class is limited only to six children - made me emotional. That is why I applied for this project.

Q. What is the final mission for <Art Yurt>?

To create artistic moments that can be ingredients of our life!

Q. Through what activities will <Art Yurt> interact?

Invisible Words
  • Words are invisible, and they are seen only when written. This pamphlet is a record of interaction and communication between five teaching artists who still need more time to prepare.
  • We send our support to any process where small, little words in mind are written, become a book, and become a language.
